The ridges in the foreground are the remains of daffodil farming that took place on the island in the 1800's. The flowers were then exported to places like Covent Garden in London. The last private owner of the island insisted that the island be returned to nature, trees grew up and the paths became overgrown so that only the areas closest to the landing point were still acessible. Nature was allowed to reclaim the open fields.
The uneven ground here gives me a sense of walking over a miniature landscape; hills and valleys, avenues and corners, it's like an entire topography under your feet. Combined with the starkly-delineated borders where the bushes in the background haven't reclaimed ground, it feels like a city or town, like a Giant's-eye view of Tolkien's Shire.
I love how you manage to catch the exceptionally brightly-lit foliage even against the shadowed background of the tree trunks - that brilliance where you might expect subdued lighting really is wonderful.

This newsletter was "born" back in March 2007. While things have changed over time, the essence of the newsletter is still the same. We choose photomanipulations that have made an impression on us from the past week. We do not base our choices on preference or friendships and we have never featured ourselves. We simply pick photomanipulations showing creativity, technique and quality at the same time, and are simply eye-catching. As we are also stock artists, we will only feature the works that give proper credits to stock artists.
Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 5 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
Finally I found the time and effort to do another watchers feature. A lot of new-comers have shown up since the last feature, and I want to thank them all for being interested in my works. I've roamed through all their galleries, and picked the one, two or three best deviations made by each. I hope you will enjoy this collection as much as I enjoyed making it!

So with a dash of hooray and a heaped spoonful of congratulations, we are delighted to present the Deviou... Read More
